Hello to all Cyprus dog lovers,
the time flies by and I wanted to say hi.
I am now almost three years with my people in Hamburg and I love them. I have not only a two-legged,
but also a four-legged friend and that’s great!
My Mimi, a pretty black-haired polnish girl has helped me in the beginning. But now I am the man of the house and take care of my girls. And because I ‘m a great guy and my people are so excited about me, so many Cyprus dogs followed me to Germany.
Hi, I’m Scotty, who landed on a cold evening in January 2009 in Hamburg.
My flight sponsor from Cyprus to Hamburg was Barbara and could not have been better.
I flew not in a dog cage, but was allowed to sit on her lap.
Now I’m over 5 years here in Hamburg and I have not only conquered the heart of my people but also their bed. It could not been better.
Greetings from Hamburg,
Your Scotty

We received a desperate call from the PAWS Shelter.
Currently there is a glut of puppies. It further pups were still exposed to the PAWS and slowly the desperation increased because there is no more room.
We could arrange that one of our other partner shelters could make some room and take over
eight puppies to help the PAWS Shelter.
The sweet puppies are now looking for a beautiful home.
We thank all the volunteers, all the people that help us in any way, all the people who feel connected with us, all donors, all foster homes, all people who speak about us and our work – be it privately or on Facebook. We thank our sister organization Zypernhunde e.V. for the great cooperation and for the rehoming of our dogs to Germany. We also thank our partner shelters in Cyprus for cooperation.
CyDRA thanks their committee for the tireless work and we thank our trainer team for the great work they are doing.
You all are great and let grow CyDRA to what it is.
CyDRA wishes you all a Happy Easter!
Yesterday we received pictures of the pretty poodle Fairy.
Fairy could be rescued 2012 from a pound.
Motionless she lay in her kennel. On the day of her discovery, there was sweltering heat and the little fairy was completely dehydrated. She was positive ehrlichiosis, a later test showed it and she had to be medically treated.
After Fairy had recovered she was adopted a short time later by a German family. Fairy is very happy in Germany. She is a little princess and is very loved by her family.
We are very happy for Fairy. Enjoy your life in Germany little princess.
Tomorrow on Friday 18th April 2014 the following dogs fly off to Hamburg to their new homes: Abby, Becky and Drake.
Olly is now called Tomte. He has found his forever home a few weeks ago.
He is doing very well and he feels very comfortable in his new home. His favorite pastime is playing with the ball. He loves cuddles and his new mom very much.
We wish you a lot of fun with your new family.
Nanah lives currently in a foster home after she was found a few months ago in Kiti.
The family who has found her has tried find Nanahs rightful owner. They have hung up posters of her around Kiti, they have informed the police – where Nanah was also advertised and created a own Facebook page, but apparently they didn´t want to find Nanah.
Nanah is already a bit older, but a beautiful Golden Retriever lady. Her exact age can only be estimated and should be eight years, according to the vet.
The Finder don´t want to bring the pretty lady in an animal shelter or even in a pound, so Nanah can remain there until she has found a nice home.
I have been with my two mistresses in Hude/Germany since 28 February 2014.
I was allowed to keep my beautiful name, even though at first I didn’t understand that it was my name! My mums tell me every day that I am a great dog, I have already learned quite a lot and never have to go anywhere else again! I slowly came to understand this and I am so happy because I have my family (a female and 2 males) who I have grown to love so much.
I have been house trained from the beginning. I don’t really like to go out in the dark – that’s too scary for me. One of my two mistress asks me every night if I want to go out – but no thank you, I will just go to my basket.
Stan – now Stanley – has arrived in Germany.
The welcome at the airport was positive. Our 12 year old female dog accepted Stanley. After the trip to Cuxhaven the house and the garden were immediately viewed.
The first night was calm and relaxed. As a matter of course Stanley integrated into the family and into the daily routine, as he had always been here. The first walk was also relaxed.
He like cuddles and animated for petting, but he also calls his time for plays, during which he is hard to stop. If he has finished, he lays down to rest and relaxed.
We have beautiful photos of our Glie from her foster home in Germany.
She is still very cautious, but she will learn to be more confident. She is still looking for a home. We hope that she will find quickly a lovely family.
Good luck beauty!
Another beautiful, sunny Cyprus morning saw the CyDRA Tales to Tails team setting up our stand at the delightful Limassol Zoo on Sunday 13th April for the Easter Children’s Festival.
The zoo was bustling from the moment we got there and it was great to see that everyone was very interested to see our presentation and to find out about our work.
You can see from the pictures just how many people came to the event, and therefore a great success for the zoo.
Besides our dogs there were many animals to see in their clean and shady environments, including a beautiful baby goat, Brownie, which people could see close up, a baby Lama, only a few weeks old and, my personal favourite, the pygmy hippo!
Please have a look at our beautiful Monty.
5 long years he had to wait for his chance at the shelter. Now he is free and he looks sooo happy!
The little lady next to him is our Gabby.
We have new photos of Chin from his foster home in Germany.
He feels comfortable in the garden.
Franzi lives in Germany for over a year with her family. She feels very comfortable there and all are very happy with her.
Franzi lives a beautiful dog’s life and we are all very happy about it.
Look at this little video of her:
Today on Thursday 10th April 2014 the following dogs fly off to Hamburg to their new homes: Dee, Princess, Chin, Susi & Jilly, Shadow, Stan, Loopy, Willow, Monty and Jerry.
In order to tell the story of Benno, we must go back a little further this time.
The story began at the end of March, when two tourists made a short trip from Germany to Cyprus.
Actually, they should have gone on a trip to on Sunday to Nicosia, but they have never actually saw anything of Nicosia! Nevertheless, the two say that Cyprus is a beautiful island with friendly people.
As they drove one afternoon down from the highway towards the hotel, they saw for the first time a dark fuzzy shadow, but only very briefly. The fuzzy shadow sat between a garden and a fence and didn’t know seem to know what to do, because on the one hand there was the fence, an escarpment and the road, and behind him was the highway.
Look at our beautiful Ashy from her foster home in Germany.
Ashy is now two weeks in her foster home and is getting more confident. In the beginning she was very anxious. Ashy has a lot to learn, but she is a very sweet and affectionate dog who is still looking for a home.
Like every year after hunting season many hunting dogs were left alone by the hunters. These dogs now move back from the hunting areas towards towns and villages in search of food and water.
As usual, poison is now interpreted again to poison these dogs and if these dogs eat this poison, they die a miserable death.
The dogs that are not poisoned continue to search desperately for food and water and the summer comes colser, so it´s harder for them to survive. They expecting a horrible death, they starve and die of thirst.
Hi everyone!
My name is Riley and I think I’m a Munsterland cross Setter?
One thing I know for sure is that I am one handsome boy and I’m super friendly and have been looking for a home now for over 3 years. 🙁 I don’t know why, I’m not wanted as I’m really friendly, loving, affectionate, playful and looooove cuddles! I love people and other dogs but not too keen on cats.
I’m approx. 4 to 5 years old and was found dumped and just wondering around looking for food.
Joey is one of the many dogs which were abandoned just in front of the fence of an animal shelter.
What makes the story of Joey something worse is that when he was seen by the helpers in the morning when they came to the shelter, the helpers noticed immediately that he was limping and the lower part of his right hind leg was hanging down.
The immediate visit to the vet revealed that the leg is broken and he must be operated as soon as possible. The animal abandonment outside the shelters is bad enough, but with broken body parts makes it worse.
Marco is received very well in his foster home in Germany. His flight to freedom was on 21 March.
His foster mom describes Marco as follows:
Marco is a very amazing young dog and my thanks goes to Carole and her team of trainers in Cyprus. They have through their work with Marco made an open-minded and trusting dog.
Marco goes really well on a leash, has no fear of everyday things, is very friendly and very willing to learn.
We have got more photos of Noble from his home in Germany.
What a new life. He hit the jackpot! But see for yourself:
… or just lucky that our Carol was at the same time on the road.
Elina was discovered the first time on 22th March 2014.
Carol (one of our trainers) left the shelter in which she operates on this day and turning onto the road that she drives home when she noticed lots of brake lights of traffic ahead. As she came closer she saw a white dog dodging the vehicles on the road.
She heard a screech of breaks (only travelling at approximately 5 km/h) then the dog was seen limping off between cars.
She stopped off the road as did another lady and they got out of the vehicles and tried to coax this emaciated white pointer bitch to come to us. She moved off the road thankfully and down a single track road. You could see all of her ribs and hip bones beneath her scarred skin: she was now limping badly with her left hind leg carried off the ground. One of the vehicles must have hit her and she was not in a good state. The other lady said she could not help as had to go.
Freeway is now called Marley, like the dog in the movie ” Marley and Me”. Now after ten days he now is with us we must note this name fits him perfectly.
The ride home from the airport went smoothly. He immediately jumped into the car, lay down and dozed the whole trip.
At home some family members were waiting eagerly for their new family member. Everything was ready, we went a little walk and then he was allowed to explore his new home and meet his family.
He got something to eat and then he has a period of calm and we wanted to sleep. But Marley was terribly excited, he jumped and ran through the beds back and forth. Finally he lay down on the tiles and not in his dog basket and the rest of the night he was quiet.
Please let your dogs wear tick collars (especially well protected is your dog through the collar Scalibor) and let your dog vaccinate against parvovirus.
More and more dogs at the moment get an infection by the parvo virus, or get leishmaniasis by the sandfly.
Please protect your dog.
We have collected some informations on different diseases. We will complete this page on and on. A look at this side is always worthwhile: Mediterranean diseases.
We have received again news of Gabby from her foster home in Germany.
The foster home describes Gabby as follows:
Gabby is a very fun loving dog. She loves people and wants to be always with them. She likes to cuddle, but also to kid around at the same time.
The “small” Francis is now living just over a year with her family in Germany. Francis took a few days to settle in. She never wanted to go far away from the house. It also took a long time to be housebroken. Meanwhile she has settled in her home. She has a very large land with adjoining forest to romp and play.
Francis goes to dogs always friendly and shows no aggression. She shows no fear of people. She goes open-minded and friendly to all. She is still a bit jumpy in front of trains and buses, but even she will learn it.
Francis is a very affectionate dog and she loves the sun. In the summer she was on a lake, where she has purely dare a little bit, otherwise she is more afraid of water .
Today we got pictures and a beautiful video of Toppy from his new home in Germany.
We were very pleased, that Toppy could leave the island on 31th January, because this poor boy had to wait more than 5 years at the shelter!
His former owner gave at first the promise to get him out there but he didn’t kept the promise.
So, now we are very very happy for Toppy. He has the heaven on earth. His family loves him more than anything and Toppy lives up there. Great news!
Here is the wonderful video:
Tomorrow on Monday 31th March 2014 the following two dogs fly off to Frankfurt to their new homes: Dorothy and Cruz.
The story of Banoffi is that she was found running scared along a road up in Fasoulla Village. She was seen a few times with her mother and they seemed to be living in a shed about 200 meters up the road. She was picked up and went back to the shed to find her mother dead in the shed – looked like poisoning. At that point the finders took her in hoping the cats would accept a new puppy – but sadly not.
Banoffi has a very loving nature and only makes a squeak if she is left alone – she loves company. She has also showed no aggression towards the cats – she is desperate to be friends with them. In a Pet shop in Episkopi she met another puppy and loved playing with him.
We have news about Lea.
But befor we report, we would like to thank all previous donors (including the people from Germany) who have donated for Lea´s surgery.
Lea got a date for surgery in the short term and has been operated on today (25th March 2014).
We will report shortly how the surgery went. So far we don´t have news from Germany.
We keep our fingers crossed that everything is all right with Lea.
Noel has settled very well in his foster home. In the house he is relaxed. Through the many new impressions he sleeps a lot. He is still afraid of some environmental influences, but with a little training he will reduce his fears.
The pretty Noel is still looking for his people.
Tristan has settled in well in his foster home in Germany. He is a very intelligent dog.
He wags happy with his tail when the family come home or just when they talk to him. He follows the family members everywhere they go and loves the long walks with their other dogs.
Tristan has his zest for life after four years in the shelter finally back. But to his final happiness he still needs a family who gives him all the attention he deserves.
Good luck Tristan!
We have also new photos and a new video of Luca from his foster home in Germany.
Please take a look:
Look at our beautiful Gabby from her foster home in Germany.
Yesterday Gabby had to change her foster home and is now living together with our Dennis.
She is a little funny hussy, but which is also very willing to learn. Other dogs are not a problem, but she needs leadership from the people. Otherwise she wrapped too much round your little finger.
She is still looking for her forever home.
On 21th March Helen is traveled to Germany.
She arrived well in her new home and she already feels comfortable. Helen is a little afraid of roads and cars, but in the fields and woods she is totally relaxed. There, she rages through the area.
We wish Helen and her family a lot of fun together.
We still need money for Lea’s operation.
Can anyone help? If you can spare a few euros, please help us.
